DOUVRIS Westboro has an approach to karate, fitness, and leadership that is unique in the region. Senseis Domenic and Fortunato Aversa and their team are members of the Ottawa community and leaders in karate.

Sensei Domenic Aversa

Sensei Dominic began studying karate in 1986 at the age of 10, with Master Senseis John & Peter Douvris. Since that time, he has earned his 5th-degree black belt, 15 individual, and six team World Championship gold medals in super lightweight point sparring. He has been the Canadian National Champion since 1995.

He received the ACT Award (now the Ottawa Sports Award) as Amateur Athlete of the Year in the field of sport karate, and in 2012 was inducted into the World Karate and Kickboxing Council Hall of Fame. He continues to compete in the National and World tournament circuits.

Sensei Fortunato Aversa

Sensei Fortunato began studying karate in 1986 at the age of nine, with Master Senseis John & Peter Douvris. Since that time, he has earned his 5th-degree black belt, and was the first Canadian competitor to win the welterweight point sparring World Championship, in Denmark. He has been the Canadian National Champion since 1993, and has accumulated 12 individual and six team gold medals in welterweight point sparring in World Championship competition.

He is a two-time recipient of the ACT Award (now the Ottawa Sports Award) as Amateur Athlete of the Year in the field of sport karate, and in 2000 was named Canadian Martial Artist of the Year. He continues to compete in the National and World tournament circuits.
